The Smiths Falls Community Theatre (SFCT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of high quality theatrical and artistic experiences in a variety of forums for citizens of all ages in the Town of Smiths Falls and the surrounding area.

In addition, through it’s partnership with the Town of Smiths Falls, the SFCT will preserve a significant building and part of the town’s heritage through the renovation and redevelopment of the Victoria Avenue Railway Station. It is the dream of the Community Theatre to soon have a permanent home for our amateur productions, as well as a place to showcase a variety of professional acts that could be attracted to Smiths Falls with the promise of a suitable stage on which to perform.

Our mandate is to expose children and adults alike to live theatre. Without our productions and workshops there may be some people that would never be able to experience the thrill of being on stage or watching a live performance. We ran successful children’s workshops on Theatre and Acting this past summer and are planning the same for this year.

At present we are continuing to raise funds for the renovation of the station, with work proceeding as we raise the money. The lobby and reception area of the theatre is now completed with money from the Trillium Organization. We have now moved into the interior of the theatre and have framed the exterior walls and have built the risers for our seating. The NAC in Ottawa have donated 150 seats, which was a tremendous boost to our campaign. To complete the interior we need to raise approximately $200,000. We plan to accomplish this through government grants, private sector and public donations, the selling of our advertising billboards which we have on the side of the train station, sponsorship of the seats, and the continuation of our fund raising efforts such as our productions and Gala events.

Over the last few years we have put on 4 performances a year, with the production at Christmas being a children’s play performed entirely by children ages 5-18. Some of our performances include Nunsence, Salt Water Moon, The Foursome, Wild Guys, Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, The Baby-sitter, Annie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Our Town, and Plaza Suite to name a few.
